BMW Silk Road trip

We successfully handled a team of 17 BMW American motor bikers on the Silk Road trip earlier this month!

17 BMW motorbikes, mostly GS Adventure series 1200 cc roaring on the roads of Iran; i could hardly reach them with my tip top condition minibus adjusted to carry possible broken bikes by removing all of the seats. All equipped with rough-terrain capable "dual-purpose" type motorcycle, with sturdy, lockable panniers or saddlebags and an approved handlebar-mounted portable Garmin GPS receiver. That’s why I had sent the tracks and waypoints few months earlier to be sure they feel more comfortable for their first time navigating in relatively good roads of Iran.
We carried spare tires, logistics and organize everything from A to Z. Leading American motor bikers for the first time in Persia I had to cooperate with all the sectors involved. Border entry on first day and we rode all the way to our hotel overlooking the Esteel protected Area; a small quite wetland with migrating birds still abundant, rice field on the background with broad-leaf forest of Hyrcania buried in afternoon fog. On following days we will ride to Rasht, Tehran, Gorgan and Bojnurd before we say goodbye to bikers. They have already passed Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan to get here. After Iran they still need to ride for about a month to pass Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. They will later ride the famous Pamir Highway surrounded by tall mountains and deep valleys on the way to Kyrgyzstan. “That’s my cup of tea”, I told Helge, a team Leader and most experienced amongst BMW riders. They will also cross in to China and Kashgar where they ride through the Gobi desert to the Eastern terminus, Xian, city of the Terra Cotta Warriors. That would be 12800 km in 58 days!
Here is a photo report from the Silk Road trip.
